Acura Car Key Replacement: What Makes Acura Keys Different
Acura has used progressively more complex key technology across its model lineup. Earlier models used basic transponder keys where a microchip inside the key head must be programmed to match the vehicle's immobilizer module — without that correct signal, the engine simply will not start even if the cut is perfect. Mid-generation models added remote head keys that combined the transponder with a keyless entry fob in a single unit. Current Acura MDX, RDX, TLX, and Integra models use proximity smart keys — also called push-to-start fobs — that allow keyless entry and ignition as long as the fob is within range. Each generation requires a different replacement process, and attempting to use an unprogrammed or wrongly programmed key will trigger your vehicle's security system rather than bypass it.
Our mobile technicians are trained to handle all three categories on-site. We arrive with OBD-compatible programming equipment capable of writing new key data directly to your Acura's ECU, and we carry a selection of key blanks and OEM-specification fobs so we rarely need to order parts before completing your job. The cost of your replacement depends on the specific key type your vehicle requires, any travel distance from our New Braunfels base, time of day, and whether secondary components such as a damaged ignition cylinder need attention — all of that is factored into the firm quote you receive before we touch anything.
